1. Cultural studies theorists separate words with capital letters from those without to differentiate the symbolic and the real. Capital letter words are used to signify the symbolic and make generalizations. For example, "Women" could be used in order to make a generalization about the way all women feel while lower case reflects on the individual. It is significant for use in the Foucault idea of discourse.
